The Dallas Independent School District currently operates 156 elementary schools, 34 middle schools, 24 high schools, 8 magnet high schools, and 7 alternative schools. These 229 schools are attended by more than 160,000 students who live in Dallas, Addison, Balch Springs, Carrollton, Cockrell Hill, Farmers Branch, Garland, Highland Park, Hutchins, Mesquite, Seagoville, University Park, and Wilmer.
For the 2008-2009 school year, Dallas ISD was rated academically acceptable by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Among the 223 campuses rated, 46 received exemplary ratings, 82 received recognized ratings, 73 received academically acceptable ratings and 22 received academically unacceptable ratings. The percentage of Dallas ISD students passing the 2008-2009 Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) was somewhat lower than for all Texas schools.
Three Dallas ISD schools are attended by students living in the far north Dallas area profiled on this website. As shown below, two of these campuses were rated recognized by the TEA based on its 2008-2009 school year performance and one was rated academically acceptable.
