The Denton Independent School District currently operates twenty-one elementary schools, six middle schools, three high schools and four special centers. These thirty-four schools are attended by approximately 18,000 students who live in Denton, Argyle, Aubrey, Bartonville, Copper Canyon, Corinth, Double Oak, Flower Mound, Lantana, Little Elm and Shady Shores.
For the 2010-2011 school year, Denton ISD was rated academically acceptable by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Eight of its campuses received exemplary ratings, thirteen received recognized ratings, nine received academically acceptable ratings and four were not rated. The percentage of Denton ISD students passing the 2010-2011 Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) was somewhat higher than for all Texas schools.
Four Denton ISD schools are attended by students living in the northwest Dallas suburbs profiled on this website. As shown below, two of these campuses were rated exemplary by the TEA based on their 2010-2011 school year performances and two were rated academically acceptable.
