The Denton Independent School District currently operates eighteen elementary schools, five middle schools, three high schools and several other special schools and centers. These twenty-nine schools are attended by approximately 18,000 students who live in Denton, Argyle, Aubrey, Bartonville, Copper Canyon, Corinth, Double Oak, Flower Mound, Lantana, Little Elm and Shady Shores.
For the 2006-2007 school year, Denton ISD was rated academically acceptable by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). One of its campuses received an exemplary rating, seven received recognized ratings, fifteen received academically acceptable ratings, one received an academically unacceptable rating, and three were not rated. The percentage of Denton ISD students passing the 2005-2006 Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) was slightly higher than for all Texas schools.
Three Denton ISD schools are attended by students living in the northwest Dallas suburbs profiled on this web site. As shown below, two of these campuses were rated recognized by the TEA based on their 2006-2007 school year performances and one was rated academically acceptable.
