The Denton Independent School District currently operates twenty elementary schools, six middle schools, three high schools and two other special centers. These thirty-one schools are attended by approximately 18,000 students who live in Denton, Argyle, Aubrey, Bartonville, Copper Canyon, Corinth, Double Oak, Flower Mound, Lantana, Little Elm and Shady Shores.
For the 2008-2009 school year, Denton ISD was rated academically acceptable by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Ten of its campuses received exemplary ratings, ten received recognized ratings, nine received academically acceptable ratings, and three were not rated. The percentage of Denton ISD students passing the 2008-2009 Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) was slightly higher than for all Texas schools.
Four Denton ISD schools are attended by students living in the northwest Dallas suburbs profiled on this website. As shown below, two of these campuses were rated exemplary by the TEA based on their 2006-2007 school year performances and two were rated recognized.
