The Richardson Independent School District currently operates forty elementary schools, eight junior high schools, five high schools, and three alternative learning centers. These fifty-six schools are attended by approximately 35,000 students who live in Richardson, Dallas, and Garland.
For the 2008-2009 school year, Richardson ISD was rated recognized by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Thirty-six of its campuses received exemplary ratings, sixteen received recognized ratings, one received an academically acceptable rating, and three were not rated. The percentage of Richardson ISD students passing the 2008-2009 Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) was significantly higher than for all Texas schools.
