The Richardson Independent School District currently operates forty-one elementary schools, eight junior high schools, five high schools, and one alternative learning center. These fifty-five schools are attended by approximately 35,000 students who live in Richardson, Dallas, and Garland.
For the 2006-2007 school year, Richardson ISD was rated recognized by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Twelve of its campuses received exemplary ratings, thirty-one received recognized ratings, ten received academically acceptable ratings, and three were not rated. The percentage of Richardson ISD students passing the 2005-2006 Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) was somewhat higher than for all Texas schools.
